Exploitation of the female image to sell a product is undoubtedly a contentious area for an artist. The technique I chose to amplify and simultaneously intensify the image of youthful female beauty as a clumsy make over, a hand coloured film still, an uncomfortable application of makeup, where none is needed.
The subjects chosen were ‘exploited’ as much as their image – in the worlds they inhabited and in several cases by their own families. That direct preying upon their persons, in tandem with their remote puppeteers – resulting in a metaphorical consumption of their being, total control, total manipulation, totally consumed.
